Aware of its role and responsibility towards the communities and the areas where it operates and in view of the nature and extent of the risks to health and safety at work, Cartiere del Garda S.p.A. undertakes to:

  • act in compliance with the current legislation disciplining environment, health and safety at work;
  • prevent pollution, accidents and injuries in the surrounding environment;
  • identify the activities and / or areas responsible for energy consumption in order to find potential interventions aimed at increasing energy efficiency;
  • progressively improve its environmental, energy and safety performance, implementing a continual improvement system;
  • adopt a 'Sustainable' Environmental Purchase Policy for raw materials, in order to avoid the use of:
    - illegally harvested wood;
    - wood harvested from forest areas in violation of traditional or civil rights;
    - wood harvested from forest areas having high conservation values, and which are under threat;
    - wood from natural forest that has been converted to plantations or non-forest use;
    - wood harvested from genetically modified (GM) trees; 
  • involve its suppliers in environmental, energy and safety objectives.

These commitments, periodically put into practice by specific objectives and improvement targets, are pursued through:

  • constant control over environmental issues and energy consumption and monitoring of risks inherent in work operations both in strategic decisions and individual operations carried out internally or by suppliers;
  • the optimised use of raw materials, water and energy resources with the aim of energy savings;
  • the purchase of fibrous materials from well managed or certified sources, in accordance to and abiding to the specific requirements of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards and the Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) standards;
  • the adoption of the Best Available Techniques (BAT);
  • the reduction of the values, in terms of severity and probability, of risks to health and safety;
  • the assessment of the environmental and energy-related issues and hazard factors when developing new activities, processes, products and plants;
  • the training and increased responsibility of staff and improving awareness among suppliers;
  • workers' awareness also in order to avoid conduct hazardous to health and safety;
  • the regular communication, providing reliable figures, on Garda Cartiere environmental, energy and safety performance.

To achieve all this, Cartiere del Garda S.p.A. is adopting an Environmental Management System in compliance with the EMAS European regulations, the top standard in corporate environmental management, the ISO 14001:2004 and for energy-related issues under the UNI CEI EN 16001. The Company is also following and applying all the requirements of the International Certification standards, such as FSC and PEFC, and is adopting a Safety Management System conforming to the standard OHSAS 18001.

The company management guarantees that all the human and financial resources which are necessary for its implementation will be used.
